Gear Couplings

 Gear couplings come in 2 basic styles:-

1) The fully flexible coupling comprising 2 externally geared hubs ruinning in 2 outer hubs, similarly geared internally

2) The flexible/rigid coupling comprising one geared hub and one solid hub.

Both styles are torsionally rigid, both accomodate angular misalignment and a degree of end float, but the fully flexible style also accomodates parallel misalignment.

SELECTION:

 Calculate the required design torque at the lowest operational rpm

 T = 9 549 x KW x SF / N
      KW = Power; N = rpm; SF = Service Factor (select from tables) Flexible or Rigid/Flexible

Select a coupling from the dimension tables with sufficient torque capacity that  can be machined to required shaft sizes ast the required speeds.
