Identification of slewing rings

Most modern European manufacturers have a plate riveted to one of the rings which will offer information on the bearing reference and date of manufacture, possibly even the original serial number. Other manufacturers still stamp this information into the bearing rings, which can become worn over time, hidden from view or obscured by paint.

Some rings are OEM manufacture, and have part numbers that are not always catalogued. NBC has an extensive (but not infallible!) database of OEM parts.

From this page you can download some basic drawings that will assist you to gather all the information we require to identify slewing rings. We may well have what you want in stock, or we can have manufactured quickly.

A well dimensioned drawing will include:-

  • Overall inner and outer diameters
  • An indication if either is stepped (usually for a toleranced diameter)
  • Heights of inner ring, outer ring, overall assembled height, and gear face width (if not full depth)
  • Bolt hole PCD, quantity and style (i.e. drilled through, drilled and tapped). Note that bolts holes are usually equally spaced, but not always so.
  • Gear detail including the number of teeth, tooth height and profile. Is the gear tooth blackened? This may indicate that the gear has been hardened.
  • Number, size and and position of grease nipples or fittings - important on centrally lubricated bearings
  • Any other relevant application details
